Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Annpurna Devi, addressed the ongoing progress in women’s empowerment, highlighting the government’s efforts to shift from women’s development to women-led development. Speaking on the transformative initiatives, she noted that when women are given leadership roles, they contribute significantly to sectors like education and healthcare.
“We are progressing from women development towards women-led development. When women are given leadership roles, they work more in the education and medical fields,” Devi stated, underscoring the importance of women in shaping a prosperous and progressive nation.
Devi praised the government’s continuous efforts to empower women, improve their safety, and ensure their prosperity. She also pointed to India’s recognition on the global stage, noting that during the G20 summit, the world acknowledged India’s strides in promoting women-led development.
“The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is a good example of this,” she added, referring to the law that ensures a greater representation of women in Parliament.
Additionally, Devi highlighted the significant increase in the gender budget, noting that in 2013-14, the gender budget was Rs 97,000 crores, which has now grown to more than Rs 3 lakh crores in the 2023-24 fiscal year. This increase reflects the government’s sustained commitment to investing in women’s welfare and empowerment.
The Minister’s remarks reflect India’s evolving approach to gender equality, focusing not just on development for women, but on women leading the charge for broader societal transformation.
