Union Home Minister Amit Shah Visits Poonch, Announces Special Package for Shelling Victims

By a Staff Reporter: Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the border district of Poonch today to assess the situation in areas affected by cross-border shelling and to meet families impacted by the violence. He was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Public Health Engineering Minister Javed Ahmed Rana, and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.

During his visit, Amit Shah offered prayers at Gurudwara Singh Sabha and Geeta Bhawan, and access losses they’re due to Pakistani shelling. He also paid a visit to several homes that were damaged due to recent Pakistani shelling. A special programme was organized in which Shah handed over appointment letters to the next of kin of those killed in the shelling, reaffirming the government's commitment to support bereaved families.

Addressing a gathering in Poonch, the Home Minister took a firm stand on terrorism. “Our stand is clear—there will be zero tolerance towards terrorism. We are committed to ensuring peace and security for every citizen,” Shah said.

In a significant announcement, he declared a special package for those whose properties were damaged due to cross-border shelling. “The Union Government will soon release a compensation package to rebuild homes and lives affected by this unwarranted aggression,” he said.

Praising the resilience of the local residents, Shah added, “The people of Poonch have shown extraordinary courage and continue to stand firmly with the Government of India. Your strength is an inspiration to the entire nation.”

The visit is seen as a strong message of solidarity with border residents and a reaffirmation of the central government’s commitment to their welfare and security.
