Supreme court
By A Staff Reporter
The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the Telangana government’s plea challenging the Telangana High Court’s interim order regarding the increase in Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in local body elections. The High Court had earlier stayed the State government’s decision to raise OBC reservation to 42%, pending further legal scrutiny.
The Telangana government had moved the apex court seeking relief from the High Court’s interim order, arguing that the increase in reservation was in accordance with existing laws and aimed at ensuring greater representation for OBC communities in local governance.
However, the Supreme Court declined to interfere with the High Court’s order, effectively maintaining the status quo and preventing the implementation of the 42% OBC reservation in the upcoming local body elections.
