The Supreme Court of India has declined to entertain petitions seeking an independent investigation into the violence that erupted in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The petitioners had called for a thorough and impartial probe into the incidents, but the Court advised the two advocates to withdraw their pleas and submit more comprehensive petitions.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with the petitions' framing and suggested that the applicants file more detailed and better-structured pleas if they wished for further consideration.

The violence in Murshidabad occurred amid widespread protests against the controversial amendment to the Waqf Act, which seeks to bring changes in the management and regulation of Waqf properties. The unrest led to clashes between police and protesters, raising concerns about the law and order situation in the region.
