Sulochana keeps Bhubaneswar clean

Bhubaneswar is a dustbin free city. If that is not enough, the city corporation generates organic fertilizer from waste and generates revenue by selling them. The architect of clean and healthy city is a young lady, Sulochana Das, the first lady of Bhubaneswar. Speaking to ANM News over phone from Bhubaneswar, the Mayor of the city mentioned that they have been able to achieve the cleanliness owing to proper planning and cooperation from the citizens. Explaning the basic concept, Das said that wastes are segregated at residences, showrooms, offices and shops. ``Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation officials move around with vehicles twice in a day to collect the wastes. There are dustbin at every residences, offices and showrooms,'' she said. The youth leader, who is making waves as the Mayor of Bhubaneswar claimed that they fine people who dirties portion of the city. ``We have circulated a toll free number 1929 and also our social media handles where people inform us about wastes lying on the road or in places in the city. Many send photographs to us,'' she said. Sulochana has now embarked on a next major project of creating methane gas from waste products. The entire waste management has been off loaded to private contractors, with a few sweepers on BMC payroll for any emergencies. Taking a big leap forward, Sulochana Das has introduced working women through self help group to supervise waste management.
