New Delhi | Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, describing him as an exceptional leader whose wisdom, compassion, and humility left an indelible mark on India and the world.

 

"In Dr Manmohan Singh's passing, we have lost a leader who was the epitome of wisdom, nobility, and humility, who served our country with all his heart and mind," Gandhi said in her tribute.

 

She hailed Dr Singh as a guiding light for the Congress party and a visionary statesman who transformed and empowered millions of Indian lives through his compassion and foresight. "His advice, wise counsel, and views were eagerly sought and deeply valued across the political spectrum," she added.

 

Dr Singh, who served two terms as India's prime minister, was credited with pivotal reforms and policies that shaped the country’s socio-economic landscape. Gandhi emphasized his global stature, noting that he was "respected and admired by leaders and scholars all over the world" and hailed as "a statesman of immense wisdom and stature."

 

Reflecting on his legacy, Gandhi remarked, "Dr Manmohan Singh brought brilliance and distinction to every high office that he held. And he brought pride and honour to India." She also highlighted his unique ability to unite people with his pure heart and fine mind, qualities that endeared him to the nation.
