New Delhi: Maulana Mohammad Mirza Yasoob Abbas, General Secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, announced that the board will be actively engaging with the newly constituted Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Abbas expressed hope that the public would contribute their suggestions to the committee, which is tasked with reviewing the proposed legislation.
"The JPC has been set up by the government to examine the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. We hope that more and more people will give their suggestions to it," Abbas stated. His remarks highlight the board’s intention to be part of the legislative process and to provide feedback on the bill.
The All India Shia Personal Law Board plans to hold an internal meeting to develop and present its recommendations on the bill. Abbas emphasized the board's commitment to ensuring that the proposed amendments effectively address the concerns of the community and other stakeholders.
The establishment of the JPC reflects the government’s approach to involving various groups in the legislative process, aiming to refine and improve the Waqf (Amendment) Bill through comprehensive stakeholder input. The board’s participation is expected to contribute significantly to the debate and eventual shape of the legislation.
