New Delhi: In a significant move underscoring bipartisan consensus in India's diplomatic outreach, senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has been named as one of the seven leaders heading all-party delegations that will travel to key global capitals to brief foreign governments on India’s position in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

The announcement was made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday, who emphasized national unity. “In moments that matter most, Bharat stands united. Seven All-Party Delegations will soon visit key partner nations, carrying our shared message of zero-tolerance to terrorism,” Rijiju posted on X.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs confirmed that delegations comprising leaders from across the political spectrum will begin their tours after May 22. Among the confirmed members are BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad, DMK’s Kanimozhi, and NCP’s Supriya Sule, with destinations including the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Qatar, and the UAE.
Tharoor’s inclusion is particularly notable. Known for his nuanced foreign policy expertise and diplomatic background, the former Minister of State for External Affairs had recently drawn attention within his party by expressing public support for the government’s handling of the recent India-Pakistan conflict. His endorsement of Operation Sindoor reportedly stirred internal tensions within the Congress, with some leaders privately disapproving of his remarks.
Despite internal discord, Tharoor’s selection signals a rare alignment between the ruling and opposition benches in matters of national interest. It also adds diplomatic heft to the delegation, given Tharoor's global recognition and prior experience at the United Nations.
