BY A STAFF REPORTER: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition requesting the removal of Shahi Idgah Mosque and declaring the site as Krishna Janmabhoomi.

The PIL, filed by petitioner advocate Mahek Maheshwari, was first rejected by the Allahabad High Court on 12th October last year. The PIL claimed that the Shahi Idgah Mosque was built on Lord Krishna's birth site (Krishna Janmabhoomi).

A bench consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta rejected involvement in the High Court order against the PIL and stated that the PIL is not maintainable as several civil suits on the issues highlighted in it are already pending. The bench advised the petitioner not to file it as a Public Interest Litigation to avoid rejection.
