New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday declined requests to advance the date of hearing on pleas seeking the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the matter has already been scheduled for October 10.
A bench of the apex court made it clear that the petitions, which challenge the continued Union Territory status of J&K and call for the return of statehood, would be taken up on the date already fixed. The court did not find grounds to bring the hearing forward, despite appeals from some petitioners.
