New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has lauded Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his candid acknowledgment of the Congress party's past missteps, notably Operation Bluestar. Raut described Gandhi as a "politician with a clean heart" and emphasized the significance of accepting mistakes in politics.

"Rahul Gandhi is a politician with a clean heart. We have seen that he accepts his mistakes. It is our good fortune that the country's politics has leaders like him," Raut stated, highlighting Gandhi's willingness to take responsibility for historical actions of his party .

Raut further urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to emulate Gandhi's example by acknowledging and learning from their own errors. "PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should learn to accept mistakes and move ahead from Rahul Gandhi," he added.

Gandhi's remarks came during a recent interaction where he addressed questions about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and Operation Bluestar. He expressed his readiness to take responsibility for the Congress party's past actions, stating, "A lot of those mistakes happened when I was not there. But I'm more than happy to take responsibility for everything that the Congress party has ever done wrong in its history" .

Operation Bluestar, conducted in June 1984 under then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, aimed to remove armed militants from the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The operation resulted in significant casualties and damage to the sacred Sikh shrine, leading to widespread anti-Sikh riots following Indira Gandhi's assassination later that year.
