Hyderabad: In a major boost to India’s aerospace and defense sector, Safran Aircraft Engines has announced the establishment of a new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Hyderabad dedicated exclusively to servicing the M88 engine that powers the Rafale fighter jets. This will be the first MRO site for M88 engines outside of France and marks a critical step in strengthening India’s defense self-reliance and industrial capabilities.

The facility, expected to be operational in the coming years, will be capable of handling over 600 engine modules per year and is projected to create up to 150 jobs by 2040. The Hyderabad MRO center will play a pivotal role in supporting the Indian Air Force’s Rafale fleet as well as other M88 export customers globally, addressing the rising demand for engine maintenance services.
Christophe Bruneau, Executive Vice President, Military Engines at Safran Aircraft Engines, said, “We are delighted to select Hyderabad as the location for the first export maintenance facility dedicated to the M88. This project marks an important step in the development of Indian sovereignty in aerospace and defense, while demonstrating our commitment to developing a world-class MRO ecosystem for the benefit of all M88 operators.”
