New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said India’s armed forces must be prepared for a wide range of security challenges, from short-duration conflicts to extended wars lasting as long as five years. He was addressing a gathering on the evolving nature of global security and the strategic preparedness required to safeguard national interests.
“The current geopolitical environment is unpredictable. In such circumstances, the armed forces must remain ready for all forms of warfare, whether limited in duration or prolonged over several years,” Singh said.
He stressed that the country’s defence preparedness must extend beyond traditional strategies, with emphasis on modernisation, advanced technology, and jointness between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. “Our aim is to ensure that India remains capable of handling any contingency with confidence and strength,” he noted.
The Defence Minister also underlined the importance of self-reliance in defence production and continued investment in indigenous capabilities. He highlighted the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in defence manufacturing, calling it critical for sustaining long-term preparedness.
