NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday firmly rejected former US President Donald Trump’s claims of intervening to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Singh clarified that India’s decision to suspend or continue military actions has never been subject to third-party influence.

Speaking at an event, the Defence Minister said, “The operation against terrorists was not suspended due to the intervention of anyone. Such decisions are taken purely in the national interest and based on security considerations.”

Trump, during a recent interaction, had suggested that his administration played a key role in preventing escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. His comments had drawn sharp reactions, with Indian officials reiterating New Delhi’s long-standing policy of rejecting third-party mediation in issues concerning Pakistan.

Singh underscored that India has always retained the autonomy of decision-making in matters of national security and counter-terror operations. “No external pressure can dictate how India safeguards its sovereignty and its people,” he added.
