New Delhi: Addressing the Indian Navy's 'Swavlamban' event in Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke about India's historical reliance on the import of arms and equipment, which he argued hindered the generation of innovative ideas within the country. “We were so dependent on the import of arms and equipment that innovative ideas were not being generated in the country, and even if ideas were generated, we did not have a comprehensive system to execute them,” Singh stated.
Highlighting a shift in strategy, Singh outlined the government's recent initiatives aimed at becoming more self-sufficient in defence capabilities. “In the past few years, we decided to become more self-sufficient and decrease our dependency on imports, keeping national security into consideration,” he noted. This change in approach aligns with Prime Minister Modi's commitment to national security, which Singh believes has fostered a robust ecosystem for innovation and execution in India.
