New Delhi: In a significant political development, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the immediate convening of a special session of both Houses of Parliament to address the pressing issue of terrorism.
"At this critical time, India must show that we always stand together against terrorism," Gandhi emphasized in his letter, highlighting the need for a unified national stance. He underscored the importance of parliamentary debate in fostering consensus and demonstrating solidarity in the face of threats to national security.
This appeal follows a similar request from Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who, in September 2023, wrote to the Prime Minister seeking discussions on nine critical issues during a special parliamentary session. These issues included the situation in Manipur, economic challenges, and border tensions with China.
The government's response to such requests has previously been marked by contention. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi had criticized Sonia Gandhi's letter, accusing her of politicizing parliamentary proceedings and creating unnecessary controversy.
Rahul Gandhi's latest correspondence adds to the growing calls from opposition leaders for greater transparency and inclusivity in parliamentary deliberations, especially on matters of national importance. As the nation grapples with security challenges, the demand for a special session underscores the urgency of collective political action.
