New Delhi, May 22 — Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to visit Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on May 24, where he will meet with the families of civilians who lost their lives in recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan, according to party sources.

The visit comes amid heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), where unprovoked shelling from across the border has claimed several civilian lives and caused significant damage to property in the border villages. Gandhi’s outreach is aimed at expressing solidarity with the affected families and drawing national attention to the humanitarian toll of the ongoing conflict.

“Rahul Gandhi has always stood with those in distress. His visit to Poonch is a gesture of empathy and concern for the families who have suffered the tragic consequences of cross-border violence,” a senior Congress leader said.

The visit also carries political significance, as it comes in the wake of renewed debates over national security and the government’s handling of border tensions. Gandhi is expected to interact with local residents, assess the ground situation, and possibly raise the matter in Parliament.
