During his visit to Washington, D.C., Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his strong belief that Congress will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, challenging the ruling BJP. "We are confident that we will fight and win the elections against BJP. In the next two or three months, we will win these elections," said Gandhi, emphasizing the party's preparation and resolve.
While acknowledging the electoral challenge, Gandhi highlighted deeper issues concerning India's democratic institutions. He criticized the BJP and its ideological partner, the RSS, for allegedly damaging these institutions. "Undoing the damage that BJP and RSS have done to our institutions is a much deeper problem and that is not going to get solved so easily and so simply," Gandhi remarked.
He further outlined the obstacles facing the opposition, stating that a "huge set of structures" are being used to suppress dissent. He referenced investigative agencies and the legal system as tools used against opposition parties and their leaders. "The real challenge is to make institutions neutral again," he said, stressing the importance of restoring fairness to India's democratic processes.
His remarks reflect his party's broader strategy of focusing not only on electoral wins but also on addressing the institutional changes made during BJP’s governance.
