Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “stealing votes” in alliance with the Election Commission during past elections. Speaking at the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Madhubani, Bihar, Gandhi vowed that such practices would not be allowed in the state.
“BJP, with the help of the Election Commission, stole votes in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, and during the Lok Sabha elections, they were caught in Karnataka. In Bihar, the message is clear: we will not allow vote theft,” Gandhi said.
He also took aim at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remark that the BJP government would last for 50 years. “I was shocked—how do they know they can stay for 50 years when the people can change everything? They knew because they steal votes. But now they won’t, because we have exposed their vote theft,” he claimed.
Gandhi further accused the ruling party of favouring industrialists while ignoring the needs of ordinary citizens. “Ambani and Adani don’t need votes, but the youth of Bihar, farmers, labourers, the poor, backward classes, and Dalits need votes because this is your right and your protection,” he told the gathering.
