Delhi: Congress Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), urging it to focus on current challenges rather than attributing problems to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Speaking on recent political debates, she argued that over the past decade the BJP has repeatedly referred to Nehru to explain away present-day issues. She said the government should prioritise accountability for contemporary concerns, including the ongoing discussions around electoral processes and governance.
Vadra also raised the matter of alleged irregularities in the voter lists, describing it as an issue of “vote theft.” She questioned the government’s response to concerns surrounding the Scheme for Incarceration and Rehabilitation (SIR), urging clarity and transparency for the public.
Her remarks come at a time of heightened political exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides intensifying their campaigns ahead of upcoming elections. The Congress has been positioning itself as a voice demanding immediate attention to present-day issues, while the BJP has defended its governance record and continued to invoke historical references.
