Indian chess grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa expressed his joy and pride after winning a gold medal at the 45th Chess Olympiad, a historic achievement for the country. Speaking in Delhi, Praggnanandhaa revealed that the team’s main objective had always been to secure the gold, and they are thrilled with how they performed throughout the competition. "Our goal in the Olympiad was to win the gold. This is a historic achievement. We are all very happy with the way we have played," he said.
Both the men’s and women’s teams clinched gold, marking a special moment in Indian chess history. Praggnanandhaa shared that this dual victory made the experience even more remarkable. "For both men and women to win the gold is a special experience," he added.
Praggnanandhaa also described his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a memorable moment. He expressed gratitude for the time PM Modi spent with the team, noting that the Prime Minister engaged in a thoughtful conversation with the players for over an hour. "Meeting PM Modi was a very good experience, and we had a conversation for over an hour. PM Modi was very gracious in giving us his time and he was answering all our questions and sharing his experiences," he shared.
