BY A STAFF REPORTER: Ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections, the Chief Election Commissioner on Saturday appealed to political parties to refrain from passing personal remarks against their rivals while indirectly taking a dig at the frequent defection.

While addressing the presser, Rajiv Kumar emphasized that Political parties must not get into controversies regarding personal remarks. He further quoted the famous poet 'Bashir Badr' "Dushmani jamm kar karo, lekin yeh gunjayish rahe, jab kabhi hum dost ho jaye toh sharminda na ho." (Forge enmity if you must, but let there be a possibility that if we ever become friends, neither of us feels ashamed.). Kumar further commented on the recent cases of defection and stated that rivals are lately befriending each other.

The renowned Indian poet Bashir Badr wrote the famous mentioned couplet on the partition of India-Pakistan during the Shimla Agreement in 1972.
