Police seize contraband worth Rs 8 crore, 2 arrested

Police have seized a huge quantity of contraband worth around Rs 8 crore in Assam's Karbi Anglong district. Assam Police have arrested two persons in connection with the incident.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Police have seized a huge quantity of contraband worth around Rs 8 crore in Assam's Karbi Anglong district. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Karbi Anglong district police and CRPF, led by sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Bokajan, set up a special naka checking in front of Lahorijan police outpost in the early hours of Saturday. Bokajan SDPO John Das said, "A police team seized a truck around 12.30 am on Friday. During the search, a total of 116 soap boxes containing 1.3 kg of heroin hidden in the trunk of the truck were recovered. We have arrested two persons in connection with the case. The market value of the seized liquor is estimated to be Rs 8 crore. The arrestees were identified as Aizul Haque, 50, and Dildar Hossain, 18. "
