London, July 22: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his official visit to the United Kingdom, India's High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, emphasized the symbolic and strategic weight of the trip, despite its brief duration and overlap with an ongoing session of the Indian Parliament.
“The PM's willingness to travel a considerable distance for a short period of time, even when an important Parliament session is going on, suggests to us that he places great emphasis not only on maintaining this relationship at its current trajectory but lifting it to the next level,” Doraiswami said during a media briefing in London.
The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, technology, defence, and education. Discussions may also address progress on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA), a long-standing agenda item between the two nations.
Diplomatic sources indicate that both sides are aiming to build on recent momentum in India–UK ties, with particular attention to strategic convergence in the Indo-Pacific, collaboration in emerging technologies, and expanded people-to-people linkages.
