Itanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appealed to traders and merchants in Arunachal Pradesh to prioritise indigenous products, linking local commerce with the broader goal of national self-reliance.
Interacting with members of the trading community, Modi underlined the importance of adopting a “Swadeshi-first” approach in business. “My request to all of you is to buy indigenous products and sell indigenous products. We must make India self-reliant; only then will India become a developed country,” he said.
The Prime Minister urged traders to take a pledge against stocking foreign-made goods, arguing that the shift toward Indian products would directly strengthen the economy. “I urge all traders to first decide that we will not sell foreign products,” he added.
The remarks align with the government’s larger “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision, which seeks to reduce dependency on imports by boosting domestic manufacturing and encouraging consumer preference for Indian-made goods. Officials have often highlighted that the participation of small traders and local markets is crucial in sustaining this effort.
