New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a major new employment initiative aimed at boosting private sector job creation and supporting India’s youth as they enter the workforce. Speaking in the capital, Modi introduced the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme, which will provide direct financial support to first-time jobholders in the private sector.

“The focus of the Indian government is also on creating new employment opportunities in the private sector,” the Prime Minister said. “Under this scheme, the government will provide ₹15,000 to youth securing their first job in the private sector—meaning the government will contribute to the first salary of their first job.”

The government has allocated ₹1 lakh crore for the scheme, which aims to facilitate approximately 3.5 crore jobs over the coming years. Modi emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader push to empower India’s youth and strengthen economic growth through employment.

He also highlighted the significant role of the manufacturing sector in job creation. “Today, one of India’s greatest strengths is our manufacturing sector,” he noted. “In recent years, we have strengthened the Make in India campaign, and a large number of new jobs are being created in manufacturing.”
