Dehradun, Uttarakhand – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced the commencement of the Sheetkal Yatra, a winter pilgrimage initiative aimed at boosting tourism in Uttarakhand. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mukhwa Harsil tomorrow to promote the yatra and will offer prayers at Gangotri Dham as part of the initiative.
“We have started the Sheetkal Yatra, and PM Modi is visiting Mukhwa Harsil tomorrow to promote it. He will perform pooja and darshan at the Gangotri Dham. This will significantly help in boosting our economy,” said Dhami while addressing the media.
He highlighted the economic benefits of the initiative, particularly for local businesses and workers. “Previously, shops remained without business, and taxi drivers and tourist guides did not get work for six months. Now, with this initiative, they will have work opportunities for 12 months,” he added.
The Chief Minister also credited PM Modi’s previous visits for the rise in tourism numbers. “After the Prime Minister’s visit to Kedarnath, tourist numbers have crossed 20 lakh, and after his 2023 visit to Adi Kailash, the number of devotees traveling there has surged. Similarly, the Sheetkal Yatra will be carried out across the entire state in full swing,” he said.
