New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually in the upcoming India-ASEAN Summit, while External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to represent India at the East Asia Summit, government sources confirmed on Thursday.
Citing scheduling issues, officials said the Prime Minister will not travel to Malaysia for the annual series of meetings with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its dialogue partners. However, Modi is expected to deliver India’s address virtually, reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to its “Act East Policy” and regional cooperation.
EAM S. Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation in person at the East Asia Summit, where key discussions are likely to focus on maritime security, regional stability, trade partnerships, and digital connectivity.
The India-ASEAN Summit and East Asia Summit are significant annual platforms that bring together regional and global leaders to discuss strategic, economic, and geopolitical issues.
