New Delhi, June 24 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the centenary celebration of the historic meeting between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi, reflected on the powerful legacy of Guru’s social reform and its continuing relevance in modern India.
“The social conditions 100 years ago were marked by distortions caused by centuries of colonialism,” the Prime Minister said. “In such an era, people feared raising their voices against entrenched evils. But Sree Narayana Guru stood firm—undaunted by opposition, driven by truth, service, and a deep commitment to harmony and equality.”
PM Modi praised Narayana Guru for his courage and clarity in challenging social hierarchies and championing the cause of the oppressed. “He didn’t fear resistance because his vision was rooted in unity. His life and teachings offer us the path to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’,” the Prime Minister said, linking the reformer’s philosophy with the core tenet of his government’s inclusive development agenda.
“This trust and inspiration from leaders like Sree Narayana Guru gives us the strength to build an India where the last person in line is our priority,” he added.
