Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's legacy and betraying the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. In a strongly worded tweet, the Prime Minister condemned what he termed as Congress's "malicious lies" and attempts to cover up years of misdeeds.
"If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!" Modi wrote. He added, "The people of India have seen time and again how one Party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and humiliate the SC/ST communities."
The remarks come amid ongoing political sparring between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress over issues related to social justice, governance, and historical legacies.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of Dalit rights, has often been a central figure in debates over caste equity and social reform. Modi's statement reflects the BJP's strategy of aligning with Ambedkar's ideals to counter Congress’s narrative on social justice.
In the past, Modi and other BJP leaders have accused Congress of neglecting Ambedkar's contributions and failing to honor him appropriately. This has been a recurring theme in BJP's outreach to SC/ST communities, aimed at consolidating their support base.
