Alipurduar, West Bengal – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a public gathering in Alipurduar, spotlighted India's rapid strides in the energy sector, crediting his government’s initiatives for transforming lives through expanded access to cleaner and more affordable energy.
“In the last few years, India has made unprecedented progress in the energy sector,” PM Modi said. “Today, our country is rapidly progressing towards an energy-based economy,” he added, pointing to the robust development of natural gas infrastructure across the nation.
He noted that the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network now spans over 5,520 districts, delivering compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) to homes, businesses, and vehicles. “CNG has brought a change in transportation too. Pollution is lessening. So people's health is improving, and the burden on their pockets is alleviating,” he remarked, highlighting the dual benefits of cleaner air and reduced fuel costs.

A key highlight of the Prime Minister’s address was the expansion of LPG coverage. “More than 31 crore people in the country today have LPG connections,” he announced, describing this as a significant milestone in ensuring energy access to even the remotest households. “The dream of distributing gas to every household is getting fulfilled now,” Modi said.
To support this vision, the government has prioritized strengthening the gas distribution infrastructure across the country. “For this, our government has strengthened the gas distribution network in every corner of the world,” he added, referring to India's international partnerships and domestic push for energy security.
