Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon landing in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, was immediately briefed by top officials on the recent rape incident that has shocked the city. The briefing was conducted by the Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate.
Expressing deep concern, the Prime Minister instructed authorities to take the strictest possible action against those responsible. “No leniency must be shown. Swift and firm legal action is necessary,” he reportedly told the officials.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of safety protocols in the city, calling for effective and long-term preventive strategies to ensure such crimes do not recur. He urged the district administration to strengthen surveillance, enhance police patrolling, and expand awareness programs, particularly around women’s safety.
