Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired a review meeting to evaluate the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) being developed at Lothal in Gujarat. The project, estimated at around ₹4,500 crore, aims to celebrate and preserve India’s ancient maritime traditions while serving as a hub for tourism, research, education, and skill development.
The NMHC at Lothal, an important site of the Indus Valley Civilization, is envisioned as a comprehensive centre showcasing India’s seafaring history, maritime architecture, and trade legacy. Officials briefed the Prime Minister on construction milestones, project design, and initiatives for integrating research and educational facilities within the complex.
The project is expected to attract domestic and international tourists, provide employment opportunities, and promote skill development in areas such as maritime heritage, museum management, and allied sectors. It is also part of broader efforts to highlight India’s maritime achievements and enhance cultural awareness among younger generations.
