Surat, March 7 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Food Security Saturation Campaign in Limbayat, Surat, with the goal of ensuring that no eligible citizen is left behind in accessing subsidized or free food grains. The initiative, backed by the Gujarat government, aims to fortify India’s commitment to food and nutritional security, particularly for vulnerable and low-income families.
Speaking at the launch event, Prime Minister Modi said that the campaign is a step toward eliminating hunger and malnutrition, while reducing the financial stress on underprivileged sections of society. “Food security is not just about fulfilling hunger—it is about dignity, health, and national strength,” he emphasized.
Over 2.3 lakh people in Surat have already enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), which forms the backbone of this campaign. Beneficiaries receive essential food items such as fortified rice and iodized salt, ensuring both quantity and nutritional quality in their diets.
The campaign also includes targeted outreach to ensure 100% coverage of eligible families, especially in urban slums and remote areas. Officials have been directed to conduct door-to-door awareness drives to identify and enroll any remaining unregistered beneficiaries.
