Accra, Ghana – In a powerful address to the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for urgent and credible reforms in global governance structures, stating that institutions created in the 20th century are no longer equipped to handle the complexities of the 21st.

“The world is also facing new and complex crises such as climate change, pandemics, terrorism and cybersecurity,” Modi said. “Institutions created in the last century are struggling to respond. The changing circumstances demand credible and effective reforms in global governance.”

Reaffirming India’s long-standing support for the Global South, Modi emphasized that true progress in the global order is impossible without inclusive representation. “Progress cannot come without giving voice to the Global South,” he asserted, earning strong applause from Ghanaian lawmakers.

Highlighting a major diplomatic milestone achieved under India’s G20 presidency in 2023, Modi said, “We are proud that the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during our presidency.” He described the move as a historic step toward greater inclusivity in global decision-making and a recognition of Africa’s growing influence in world affairs.
