New Delhi: Speaking at the Republic TV Plenary Summit 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored his government’s achievements in direct benefit transfers (DBT) and boosting local manufacturing, contrasting them with inefficiencies of past administrations.
"Remember the time when the Prime Minister himself used to say that if one rupee is sent, only 15 paise would reach the poor," Modi said, referring to a statement attributed to former PM Rajiv Gandhi, illustrating corruption and leakages in government schemes. In contrast, he emphasized that in the past decade, over ₹42 lakh crore has been transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts through DBT, ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.

PM Modi also highlighted India’s shift towards self-reliance in manufacturing, particularly in the toy industry. “Ten years ago, we used to import Holi pichkaris and children's toys from abroad. Today, our toy exports have tripled,” he stated, crediting initiatives like ‘Make in India’ for boosting domestic production.
