New Delhi, June 24 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the centenary celebration of the historic conversation between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi, calling the 1924 meeting a defining moment in India’s freedom struggle that gave “new direction and deeper meaning” to the cause of independence.
Speaking at the commemorative event in Delhi, PM Modi said, “Today this gathering is witnessing an unprecedented event in the history of the country. An event which not only gave a new direction to our freedom movement but also gave some meaning to the cause of independence and the dream of an independent India.”
The Prime Minister reflected on the significance of the meeting between the two great reformers, noting that it went beyond politics and touched on social harmony, equality, and spiritual awakening. He lauded Narayana Guru's contributions toward ending caste discrimination and promoting universal brotherhood — ideals that resonated with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Swaraj.
