Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gifted a unique set of vintage ramen bowls with silver chopsticks to the Prime Minister of Japan, blending Indian craftsmanship with Japanese culinary tradition. The gift reflects cultural symbolism while highlighting India’s artistry in stonework and inlay design.

The set includes a large brown moonstone bowl accompanied by four smaller bowls. Moonstone, sourced from Andhra Pradesh, is prized for its glowing adularescence and is traditionally associated with love, balance, and protection. The main bowl is mounted on a base of Makrana marble, known for its durability and historical use in structures such as the Taj Mahal. The marble is further embellished with semi-precious stones through the intricate parchin kari inlay technique of Rajasthan, a centuries-old art form.

Complementing the bowls are silver chopsticks, which symbolize the blending of Indian craft with Japanese dining rituals, particularly donburi and soba traditions. The choice of materials and design represents a thoughtful merging of heritage and function.
