New Delhi, March 10, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for a two-day State Visit to Mauritius at the invitation of Mauritian Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam. The visit coincides with the island nation’s 57th National Day celebrations, underscoring the deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

Ahead of his departure, PM Modi emphasized the significance of India-Mauritius relations, describing Mauritius as a “close maritime neighbour, a key partner in the Indian Ocean, and a gateway to the African Continent.” He highlighted shared values of democracy, cultural heritage, and a long-standing people-to-people connection that continues to shape the bilateral partnership.

During the visit, PM Modi is expected to engage in high-level discussions with the Mauritian leadership to expand cooperation across various sectors, including trade, security, and development. The two nations have made significant progress in recent years through people-centric initiatives, and this visit aims to further strengthen ties under India’s Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).

PM Modi expressed confidence that the visit would “build on the foundations of the past and open a new and bright chapter in India-Mauritius relations.” His engagements in Mauritius are likely to focus on enhancing economic partnerships, infrastructure development, and maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
