New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp dig at political leaders who, he claimed, make uninformed statements on foreign policy, asserting that some individuals feel compelled to comment on diplomatic matters without adequate understanding, even at the risk of harming national interests.
Speaking during the discussion on the President’s Address in Parliament, Modi remarked, “A few people think they don’t appear mature if they don’t speak on foreign policy. They think that they should definitely speak on foreign policy, even if it causes harm to the country."

In a pointed recommendation, he urged those interested in foreign policy to read JFK’s Forgotten Crisis, a book authored by renowned scholar Bruce Riedel. The book details the diplomatic engagements between India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and U.S. President John F. Kennedy, particularly during a critical period when India faced multiple external challenges.
“This book mentions the first Prime Minister who also looked after foreign policy. It speaks in detail about the discussions and decisions between Pandit Nehru and the then U.S. President, John F. Kennedy,” Modi stated, adding that it sheds light on India’s diplomatic approaches during a tumultuous period.
