New Delhi: Speaking at the Republic TV Plenary Summit 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress-led governments of the past, accusing them of narrowing the aspirations of the people by promoting a culture of limited demands and short-term relief measures.

"Earlier, our thinking had become very narrow," Modi said, citing an example of how drought-affected villagers, instead of demanding long-term solutions, would ask for hand pumps and temporary relief work under Congress rule. He argued that this reflected how the opposition had conditioned people to expect minimal change instead of lasting development.

He contrasted this with the present, where citizens now focus on performance and accountability. “Today, people know who can work, who can bring results,” he remarked. Modi also pointed out a shift in the opposition’s rhetoric, stating that even his critics now question why he is not addressing issues, indirectly acknowledging his leadership.
