New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday emphasised the need for stronger India–Russia economic cooperation and expressed optimism about global recovery as he held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting took place against the backdrop of shifting geopolitical dynamics and renewed international focus on India’s diplomatic posture.

Welcoming President Putin, PM Modi reflected on a world that has endured unprecedented challenges in recent years, beginning with the COVID-19 pandemic and continuing through ongoing global conflicts and economic instability. “The world has faced numerous crises, from COVID-19 to the present. We hope that very soon, the world will be free from these challenges, and that the global community will move forward… fostering a new language of cooperation,” he said.

Modi underscored that the discussions would cover key global issues and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Russia. “I am confident that today, we will discuss many important global issues. The economic ties between India and Russia should be further strengthened, and together, we should aim for new heights,” he noted.

He described his approach to the meeting as one grounded in optimism and conviction. “With such a highly optimistic approach, we will advance our meeting. This is a strong conviction,” the Prime Minister added.
