Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the 17th Civil Services Day programme in New Delhi, marking the occasion with a tribute to the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the foundational role of civil servants in shaping modern India.

“This year’s Civil Services Day is special for many reasons,” the Prime Minister said. “We are celebrating 75 years of our Constitution and the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.”

Highlighting the historical significance of April 21, PM Modi recalled Sardar Patel’s iconic address to civil servants on the same day in 1947, where he referred to them as the "Steel Frame of India." The phrase, first coined by Patel, underlines the crucial role of the bureaucracy in upholding governance, order, and unity in post-independence India.

Modi praised the dedication of civil servants and emphasized their responsibility in ensuring good governance, efficient implementation of public policies, and commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution. He encouraged them to innovate, stay connected with citizens, and adopt technology to improve service delivery.
