Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Imphal on Saturday, marking his first visit to Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the state in May 2023.
Modi was received at the Imphal airport by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel. Security arrangements in and around the capital were tightened ahead of the visit, with additional forces deployed to ensure smooth movement and public safety.
The visit comes against the backdrop of prolonged unrest and humanitarian concerns following the ethnic clashes that displaced thousands and disrupted normal life across several districts. The violence, which began more than two years ago, has remained a sensitive political and social issue in the state.
