New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a major infrastructure push for Jammu and Kashmir, set to be unveiled on June 6, calling it a “special day” for the region. In a tweet posted on June 5, PM Modi highlighted the inauguration of key development projects worth ₹46,000 crore, aimed at transforming connectivity and boosting economic and spiritual tourism in the Union Territory.
Among the most significant milestones is the inauguration of the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, which the Prime Minister described as “an extraordinary feat of architecture.” The bridge connects the Katra-Banihal section and will significantly improve connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.
Another landmark project is the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, constructed in one of the most challenging terrains in the Himalayas. This engineering marvel further strengthens the all-weather transport corridor being developed under the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
“The USBRL project ensures all-weather connectivity and the Vande Bharat trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar will boost spiritual tourism and create livelihood opportunities,” PM Modi stated.
