Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday addressed a business interaction organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Mumbai, where he spoke about sustaining India’s economic growth and expanding opportunities through international trade.
In his remarks, Goyal criticized earlier economic approaches, saying, “Sadly, a whole set of people who claim to have the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi left all the teachings and all the virtuous guidance that Mahatma Gandhi had articulated. They killed the initiatives of our people and focused only on the PSUs and the government-led businesses.”
He contrasted this with the present approach, highlighting the government’s commitment to working in partnership with industry. “We would like to ensure that this GDP growth of 7.8% is sustainable. It can happen, as in adversity, we Indians shine out. We all have the ability to put that little extra,” Goyal said.
The Union Minister also urged Indian businesses to explore international opportunities and strengthen exports by making use of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), particularly with the United Kingdom and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
