Mumbai: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Saturday lauded the success of the Skill India Mission, a flagship initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 15, 2015, aimed at empowering youth through vocational and technical training.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Goyal stated that over the past decade, the program has provided skill development opportunities to approximately 1 crore 63 lakh young men and women across the country. He said the initiative has created a wave of enthusiasm among the youth, enabling them to pursue employment and entrepreneurship.
Highlighting the local impact, Goyal praised the skill development centre in North Mumbai, run by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), calling it a model of accessible and transparent training. “It is completely free. The people who come here for skill development do not have to spend even a single rupee,” he said. “In just nine months, more than 17,000 jobs have been provided through this centre.”
He emphasized that strict measures are in place to ensure merit-based entry into the program. “No recommendation or unlawful entry in this centre will be accepted. A watch is being kept, and I keep coming here to ensure that,” he added.
