Attari, Punjab — Emotions ran high at the Attari-Wagah border as Ghulam Masood, a resident of Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, voiced anguish over his wife Parween Akhtar's deportation to Pakistan after four decades of living in India. Speaking to reporters, Masood said that police entered their home at midnight on April 28 and informed them that both his wife and daughter-in-law were to be returned to Pakistan.
Parween Akhtar, originally a Pakistani national, has reportedly lived in India for over 40 years, building a life and family in Kashmir. Masood questioned the sudden action and said the family was being punished unjustly. "If the terrorists from Pakistan have done this, they should be punished. Why are we suffering? What happened in Pahalgam is absolutely wrong; we condemn it," he said, referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that has intensified scrutiny over Pakistani nationals residing in India.
Masood appealed to the government for reconsideration and expressed deep distress over being separated from his wife. “We want to go back to our homes,” he said, highlighting the human cost of geopolitical tensions and sweeping security responses.
