Amritsar, Punjab: In a startling revelation, Major General Kartik C Seshadri, General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army’s 15th Infantry Division, confirmed that Pakistani forces attempted to target the Golden Temple in Amritsar with drones and long-range missiles in the early hours of May 8, in retaliation for India’s strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The senior officer stated that the Pakistani military launched a large-scale air assault using unmanned aerial weapons under the cover of darkness. However, thanks to preemptive intelligence and enhanced air defence preparations, all incoming threats were intercepted and neutralized, preventing any damage to the iconic religious site.

“Knowing that the Pakistan Army does not have any legitimate military targets, we anticipated that they would strike Indian military installations and civilian or religious sites,” Major General Seshadri told. “Among these, the Golden Temple appeared to be the most prominent.”

To counter the anticipated threat, the Indian Army had mobilised modern air defence assets, creating a holistic protective umbrella over the temple. “Our alert and brave air defence gunners were fully prepared. Not a single drone or missile touched the Golden Temple. Not even a scratch,” he emphasized.

This unprecedented targeting of a major religious site highlights the escalatory risks and desperation of Pakistan’s military response following India's successful anti-terror operations. The Indian Army’s swift and effective response has drawn widespread praise for protecting not just national security, but also a site of immense religious and cultural significance.
