Hyderabad — All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Manipur, saying it came too late to address the suffering of people affected by ethnic violence.
Addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad, Owaisi said, “PM Modi visited Manipur after two years (after the violence broke out). He got too late. Several women were assaulted. It’s after two complete years that he thought of coming to Manipur.”
The Prime Minister visited Manipur on Saturday, where he met members of both the Kuki and Meitei communities, who have been displaced due to ongoing ethnic clashes. During his visit, Modi interacted with representatives of the two groups and assured them of the government’s commitment to restoring peace and rehabilitation.
